Leagues Explained

Every tip you make in Power Tip counts towards a league. There are four kinds of league, and each one suits a different way of playing: the Global League for your sport, private leagues for your own group, Partner Power Leagues run by podcasts, fan sites and social media channels, and Venue Power Leagues run by pubs, clubs and sporting venues. This page explains what each one is for, how to join, and how the Player Power Page fits in.

One set of tips, every league

Each league is for one sport. You do not enter separate tips for each league you are in. Your tips for a round in a sport count in every league you belong to in that sport, so one set of picks moves you up or down on all of your ladders at once. Each sport also runs its own separate ladder, so your AFL results and your NRL results never mix. For the details of how points and positions are worked out, see How Scoring Works.

Global Leagues

Every Power Tip member is automatically entered in the Global League for their sport. There is nothing to sign up for. You download the app, tip, and you are on the ladder alongside everyone else playing that sport. The Global League is the place to see how you compare against the whole Power Tip community.

You can follow the Global League ladders on the website too. The AFL Global League and NRL Global League pages show the live standings, which are updated every 30 minutes.

Private leagues

Private leagues, sometimes called Local Leagues, are for the people you already tip with: mates, family, workmates or your footy club. You create one in the Power Tip app by choosing a sport and giving the league a name. The app then gives the league its own six-character join code made up of letters and numbers.

Share the code however suits your group, and anyone with it can enter the code in the app to join. Because each league is for one sport, a group that tips in more than one sport simply creates one league for each sport.

Partner Power Leagues

Partner Power Leagues are run by footy podcasts, fan sites and social media channels. A partner gets its own branded Public Power League with its logo and tagline. These leagues are discoverable in the app, so an audience can join in one tap and tip alongside the people they already follow.

Partners also get a dedicated dashboard to manage their league, see who has joined, and keep track of how their community is engaging from round to round. If you run a podcast, site or social channel, you can register free on the Partners page.

Venue Power Leagues

Venue Power Leagues let a pub, club or sporting venue run its own tipping competition, scored automatically and shown on the big screen. They are free for the venue and for every player.

A venue registers on the Venues page, and approval usually happens within 48 hours. The venue then creates its league on its Venue Power Page with its own join code, and runs a separate league for each sport it supports. Regulars scan the QR code on the venue's screen to get the free app, type in the join code, and the venue approves who joins. Staff can also add players who do not use the app and enter their tips for them. There is no cap on how many people can join a Venue Power League.

Tips lock automatically before the first game, scores update after every result, and the venue can show its live standings on any screen that can open a web browser.

How to join a league

You can sign in to Power Tip with Google, Facebook, Apple or email.

The Player Power Page

The Player Power Page is the website version of your Power Tip account. Sign in with the same account you use in the app and you can make your tips from any browser. Your tips sync straight to the app. The Player Power Page is free to use.

Alongside Make Tips, it has the Power Board for your league, Round Scores, Team Ratings, Power Rating Stats, the Round Predictor and Last Round Stats, so you can follow every league you are in from a desktop or laptop. The Power Round is chosen in the app.

Which league is right for you?

You do not have to choose. You are always in the Global League for your sport, and you can also belong to private, partner and venue leagues at the same time, all from the same set of tips. Start a private league for your group, join your favourite podcast's league, and play in your local's competition, then check the Strategy Guide for ideas on making your tips count, or the FAQ for quick answers.
