Power Tip keeps the familiar part of footy tipping: every round, you pick the winner of every game. What changes is how much each correct tip is worth. This page explains how points are earned, how draws are handled, how your Power Ratings and Power Tip work, how the Power Round doubles a round, and how league ladders and the Power Board are worked out. If you would rather watch than read, the How It Works videos cover the basics.
For each game in the round you choose the team you think will win. There is no margin to enter and no bonus question to answer. You simply pick a winner. In the EPL and the A-League, where a drawn game is a common result, you can also tip a draw. Every game needs both a pick and a rating before your tips for the round can be submitted.
Alongside each pick, you give the game a Power Rating. Standard ratings start at 1 and go up one step at a time, and each rating can only be used once per round. You cannot put your biggest number on every game, so you have to rank the round, from the game you are most sure about down to the game you are least sure about.
The number of standard ratings depends on the sport and how many games are in the round. As an example, a nine-game AFL round uses standard ratings from 1 to 8, and the remaining game takes your Power Tip. A ten-game EPL round uses 1 to 9 plus the Power Tip.
The scoring rule is simple. When a tip is correct, you score the rating you gave it. When a tip is wrong, it scores nothing. A correct tip rated 7 earns 7 points, and a correct tip rated 1 earns 1 point.
Once per round, one game gets your Power Tip instead of a standard rating. It is the highest value pick in the round. In the AFL, NRL, AFLW, NRLW and A-League a correct Power Tip is worth 10 points. In the EPL it is worth 15 points, and in the NFL it is worth 20 points. Like the standard ratings, it can only be used once per round, and like any other tip, it scores nothing if it is wrong.
How a drawn game is scored depends on the sport.
Once per season, in each sport, you can activate your Power Round. Every point you score in that round is doubled, so each correct tip, including your Power Tip, counts twice. A wrong tip still scores nothing, because double nothing is still nothing.
You choose your Power Round in the Power Tip app, on the Make Tips screen. It must be chosen before the first game of that round starts, and once the round starts your choice is locked in. Every other round scores as normal. For ideas on when to use it, see the Strategy Guide.
Tips for a round lock when the first game of that round starts. From then on, the picks and ratings for every game in the round are fixed, including games that are played later in the round.
If you have not entered tips for a round by the time it starts, Power Tip gives you a set of automatic tips for that round. The automatic tips back the team placed lower on the ladder in each game, use the round's ratings including the Power Tip, and are scored in exactly the same way as tips you enter yourself. Members who join part way through a season receive automatic tips for rounds that have already started. The only way to have your own say on a round is to enter your tips before the first game.
Your season score in a sport is the total of all your round scores. Your percentage is the share of your tips that were correct: the number of correct tips divided by the number of games you tipped, shown as a percentage. Because percentage counts correct tips rather than points, a correct tip rated 1 helps your percentage just as much as a correct Power Tip.
Every league ladder ranks its members by total points for the season. If two members are level on points, the member with the higher percentage is placed ahead. Scores are recalculated automatically as game results come in, so nobody has to enter results or tally points by hand.
The Power Board is your league's ladder. It lists every member in order with their points and percentage, and highlights your own position. Your tips for a round count in every league you belong to in that sport, so the same result moves you on each of your ladders. Leagues Explained covers the different kinds of leagues.
You can follow your scores in the app and on the Player Power Page on the website. Round Scores show each member's score round by round. Power Rating Stats show how each of your ratings is performing. Team Ratings show how your tips on each team have gone, and the Round Predictor lets you see how the ladder could change before a round is over. Still have questions? Try the FAQ.
