Most people know how normal footy tipping works. You pick a winner for each game, and every correct tip is worth one point. Power Tip keeps the part everyone enjoys, picking winners, and changes how much each correct tip is worth. This page sets out the differences so you can see what changes when you switch.
In a standard competition every game is worth the same. A tip on a lopsided game earns exactly the same point as a tip on the closest game of the round. After a few rounds much of the field is bunched together, and results often come down to whoever got lucky on one close game. There is little reward for backing your knowledge with a bold call.
In Power Tip you still pick a winner for every game, but you also give each game a Power Rating. Standard ratings start at 1 and go up, and each rating can only be used once per round. A correct tip scores the rating you gave it, and a wrong tip scores nothing.
That one change means you are not just picking winners. You are ranking the round, deciding which games you are surest about. Two players can tip exactly the same winners and still score very differently, because they rated the games differently. How Scoring Works explains the full rules.
Once per round, one game gets your Power Tip, the highest value pick available. It is worth 10 points in the AFL, NRL, AFLW, NRLW and A-League, 15 points in the EPL and 20 points in the NFL. Normal tipping has nothing like it. The Power Tip makes you back your best call with something real on the line.
Once per season in each sport, you can activate your Power Round, and every point you score in that round is doubled. It must be chosen before the first game of the round starts, and it is locked in once the round begins. Timing is everything, and a well-placed Power Round can swing a ladder in one weekend. The Strategy Guide has ideas on when to use it.
In the EPL and the A-League you can tip a draw, and a drawn game only rewards a draw tip. In the AFL, NRL, AFLW, NRLW and NFL there is no draw option, and a level result counts as correct whichever team you picked. Everyone knows where they stand before the round begins.
There are no spreadsheets and no one chasing entries. Tips lock automatically when the first game of the round starts, scores are recalculated as results come in, and the Power Board, your league's ladder, updates after every game. Ladders are ranked on points, with percentage separating members who are level. If you forget to tip, automatic tips are entered for you so you still have a score for the round.
You can make your tips in the Power Tip app or on the Player Power Page in any browser, and your tips sync between the two. The Player Power Page also has Round Scores, Team Ratings, Power Rating Stats, the Round Predictor and Last Round Stats, so you can follow how your tips and your league are tracking.
A normal tipping competition is usually one group with one ladder. In Power Tip you are automatically in the Global League for your sport, and you can also join private leagues with your own group, Partner Power Leagues run by podcasts, fan sites and social media channels, and Venue Power Leagues at your local pub or club. One set of tips counts in every league you are in for that sport. Leagues Explained explains each one.
Power Tip covers the AFL, NRL, AFLW, NRLW, NFL, EPL and A-League, and each sport runs its own ladder. You can tip one sport or several.
Power Tip is a game of skill for entertainment. It does not involve real-money gambling. The app is free to download, and the Player Power Page is free to use.
